Privacy Policy

This site is a personal collection of technical essays. It carries no advertising, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. What follows describes the only situations in which it handles personal data.

Comments

Leaving a comment requires a name and an email address. The comment text, the name, the email address, the IP address from which it was sent and the browser identification string are stored on the site’s database. The name and the comment text are shown publicly if the comment is approved; the email address and the IP address are not, and are visible only to the site owner.

Every comment is held for manual approval and nothing appears without it. Comments close automatically ninety days after an article is published.

If the box offering to remember your details is ticked, cookies are set in your browser so that the fields are pre-filled next time. They last one year and can be refused simply by leaving the box unticked, or removed by clearing cookies for this site.

No advertising. No analytics or visitor statistics. No social media widgets or embedded content from other sites. No newsletter, no registration, no user accounts. No donations, subscriptions or payments of any kind: nothing on this site can be bought and no money changes hands. Mathematical notation is rendered by the browser itself, so no external service is contacted to display the formulas, and comment avatars are disabled. No personal data is transferred to any third party. Nothing on this site is sold, rented or shared for commercial purposes.

Email

The address in the footer is an ordinary mailbox. Messages sent to it are read and kept for as long as they are useful, and are not passed to anyone.

Server logs

The hosting provider records ordinary web server logs — IP address, time, page requested, browser string — as every web server does. These are kept by the provider for a limited period for security and diagnostic purposes and are not used to build any profile of visitors.

What this site does not do

No advertising. No analytics or visitor statistics. No social media widgets or embedded content from other sites. No newsletter, no registration, no user accounts. Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you may ask what personal data of yours this site holds, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. In practice this concerns comments and nothing else. Write to the address in the footer and it will be dealt with.
